Despite the payment of an allowance to the vital health professionals who deliver radiation therapy across the state, we have seen staffing levels at the North West Regional Hospital reach a crisis point.
Currently, cancer treatment services in the north west have been reduced because of an inability to recruit and retain the radiation therapists who run the vital services for patients, and we know this has put you under significant pressure.
We’ve written to the Department and expect that there will be an increase in the allowance paid so we can attract more health professionals to deliver the cancer treatment services that the community deserves.
Many of you have made it clear that you’ll have no choice but to take matters into your own hands if a solution cannot be delivered without delay.
We’ll be organising a member meeting next week to hear from everyone, and we’ll be discussing industrial action, so keep your eye out for more information about the meeting.
