You may have missed it but the guidelines for the AHP preceptor allowance have recently been expanded to include precepting pharmacy technicians – this important win was made possible by HACSU members!
Originally, management only wanted the allowance to apply when you are precepting allied health professionals. However, your mighty HACSU Allied Health Professionals Sub-Branch – of which your delegate Aiden is a member, have pushed since the beginning of the year to have the precepting of AHAs and pharmacy technicians recognised. They provided extensive feedback throughout the consultation process about the draft guidelines.
Because of their efforts, it’s now been confirmed that you will be eligible to receive the preceptor allowance when you are precepting pharmacy technicians to complete micro-credentialing. This will apply to not only future precepting, but you will also be able to make historical claims as long as you have the evidence.
The preceptor allowance is an entitlement that only exists because HACSU members didn’t settle for a shoddy deal by this government – and now thanks to you, this entitlement has been expanded.
Well done everyone! And if you have any questions, please send us an email at
