Value our food services workers

Food services workers are the backbone of our hospitals

They deserve to be valued at work

Thanks to LGH management’s huge cuts to Food Services rosters, many hospital workers have been plunged into financial hardship practically overnight.

Some workers are losing nearly $600 a fortnight in pay, forcing staff who’ve had steady work at the LGH for upwards of ten years to consider finding second or third jobs just to pay the bills and feed their families.

Who are Food services workers?

Food Services workers here at the LGH are the people who help prepare and deliver over 1000 meals a day to wards and run the cafeteria serving three meals a day to staff, patients and visitors.

The sad truth is that Food Services workers have not always been valued by management or the hospital bureaucracy. It’s time we change that together.

What needs to change?

Everyone deserves to feel comfortable, valued and respected at work.

Hospital management need to have a heart and value their staff by reversing these roster cuts immediately.

So far, management have brushed off concerns about the fact that their workers stand to lose a lot of money.

They’ve just claimed that no one will be disadvantaged. But if losing your livelihood isn't being disadvantaged, then what is?

You can help us show management that they can’t continue to devalue Food Services workers.

How can I help?

If management won’t listen to workers, maybe they’ll listen to the patients whose care they’re responsible for.

You can leave a message of support for Food Service workers and we’ll pass it on to management!

It's time they felt valued for the important work that they do.
