It's time to value allied health

Tasmanians are more prone to chronic diseases than mainlanders, so we need our health system to be able to provide the care our community needs.

That means more health professionals, not less.

Allied and other health professionals keep people out of hospital and get them out quicker when they do end up there.

The reality is that Tasmania doesn’t have enough allied health professional services.

That means people in need are left waiting – so they become sicker, and their problems become more complex and difficult to manage.

Sometimes people are only seen because their issues have become too acute to ignore. That’s no way to care for our community.

What needs to change?

We need proper wages and conditions for allied health professionals so we can attract and retain the staff we need to run our services.

Health professionals also need more support through education and professional development, as well as solutions to unmanageable workloads so they can provide the care Tasmanians deserve.
