Rest break entitlements – we need to hear from you

Posted on 14 November, 2023 in Social Community and Disability Sector

Recently some workers have reached out to tell us that rest breaks aren’t being scheduled correctly at some Family Based Care homes.

Members have told us that instead of a 10-minute rest period in the first 4 hours of work and the second 10-minute rest period in the next four hours of work, that rest periods are being rostered at the end of the day instead.

Not only is this unlawful and in direct breach of what your agreement says, but it’s dangerous and unsafe – because it forces you to keep working without proper breaks for most of the day.

If you’re worried about your breaks and the way they’re currently rostered, please get in touch so we can let your employer know it’s a problem they need to fix.
